As soon as I get some new software – the very first order of business is to put it to the test and see just what it can do. Not just the features and functions that the manufacturer lists on the actual box of the product. It was no different when I first received my R4 DS Card. I went online and immediately started to research and read everything I could about homebrew gaming on the Nintendo DSi.
I really took the time and read all about the unique homebrew games and applications that were available for the Nintendo DSi console. The app that truly got my blood pumping was a homebrew application called DSOrganize. You’ll need an R4 DS Card or an R4i for DSi in order to use this cool piece of software. This little handy piece of software for the Nintendo DS and DSi actually turns your hand held gaming system into a full blown portable PDA up to par with many PALM or Windows Mobile personal digital assistants.
It is really one functions that should have been integrated right from the start on both the original NDS and the new Nintendo DSi console. It really should just be natural for ys ti be able to use the Nintendo DS I already have with me to function as somewhat a multi purpose – multi function device – the Sony PSP can do it – why not the DS. The Nintendo DS is definitely powerful enough under the hood to allow for more than just playing games. Really, almost every single bottom of the shelf mobile phone has this built in – in one form or another.
However, this DS Origanize Homebrew application is far from limited. Once you put it on to your R4 DS and load it up on the Nintendo DS, you’re greeted with numerous options. While DS Organize is no pocketPC, it does give you everything you would expect from a PDA – a note or scribble pad, calendar, day planner and a full address book and todo list too.
The best part of this is the built in web browser. We all know the DS and DSi have built in WiFi but no real browser to check out our favorite web sites on the internet. Big thanks are due to the R4 DS Card and the DSOrganize homebrew application – together they allow you to use your Nintendo DS as a web browser. While the browser is still faily young there are definitely constant updates and improvements as stated on the developers website. Since it’s the first version, the browser is sort of basic – but even at this stage of the game, it blows away what even commercial browsers can do.
All told, I have found DS Organize to be a truly unique and amazing application. It’s one that I have absolutely no trouble recommending to anyone that wants to get their hands on some useful homebrew applications
